Frommer's Cruises and Ports of Call 2006
A cruise is a complete vacation, so it's important
that you choose the one that's right for you.
Frommer's Cruises & Ports of Call is the most user-friendly, opinionated, and comprehensive
guide you can buy before you set sail. We provide in-depth coverage on cruises departing from U.S.
ports to the Caribbean, Alaska, Bermuda, Mexico
and Canada.
Unlike rating systems used in other guides, our
system is simple. We break down the essential
elements of a cruise experience (dining, activities, children's activities, entertainment, service, overall enjoyment, and overall value), and rate them
from "poor" to "outstanding." Photos of each ship combine with the text to give a better sense of the
very real differences among the various lines.

Cruising the Mexican Riviera & Baja
I just returned from a Mexican Riviera cruise. We ollowed the walking and taxi tours recommended y the author(actually tore out
the pages for each ort and took them with us) and had a wonderful ime. We saw so many sights that our fellow cruisers missed. The author provides detailed information, along the lines of, "Exit the ship, turn left, walk two blocks... skip Museum A in favor of Museum B" etc. including advice regarding when to take a cab vs. walking to certain attractions. I found the directions o be very accurate for Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, and Zihuatanejo, although the map for Acapulco was not sufficiently detailed, so I suggest you pick up a city map if you're planning on walking there.
Unfortunately this book does not have any restaurant recommendations, but we ate at several of the "authentic" local restaurants mentioned in the book "Mexico's Beach Resorts for Dummies" and were very happy with our choices. Finally, the author provides some useful information about cruising in general, including a checklist of items to take, and since this was my first cruise, I found this to be very helpful.

Cruise Guide to the Europe & The Mediterranean
I'm very pleased with the Eyewitness Travel Guides in general, and
specifically with the Europe & Mediterranean edition. I especially
like the Survivors Guide and Traveler Needs sections. Other highlights
include the wonderful graphics and color illustrations, compact size,
and a unique ability to not only recommend the most important things to
see and do, but also point out the unique and often off the beaten path
places.
